What You Need to Know About Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is very common and has proven to be the most effective hair removal process. The removal process targets the hair in its active phase of growth. The laser that is used targets the melanin, which provides the pigment in the hair shafts and follicles. Those with gray, white, blonde and red hair are not eligible, as their hair does not have much melanin. The elimination of hair growth is not guaranteed, but almost all of our patients have seen thinner hair and a slower growth rate. Laser hair removal treatments from Thrive Skin + Wellness offer many benefits, and there are some things you should know before deciding on treatment.
Preparing for Treatment
Choosing a laser hair removal appointment in the fall or winter is probably the best option. Your skin can not have a sunburn or even a tan, so you must stay out of the sun four weeks prior to treatment. Spray tanning and lotions also cannot be used prior to treatment. A laser treatment is much different than a wax. You should come in with the area shaved, not waxed. The laser treatment targets the pigment of the hair follicle, so if you have recently gotten a wax, the follicle will not be able to be found. The best method is to shave the area a day or two before treatment.
The Treatment
At your first appointment, one of our highly trained technicians will do a test patch of your skin. This test shows you and our technician how your skin will react to the treatment. Some patients may see pigment problems, scarring and discoloration. The test patch is a trial run, before it is applied to a larger area of skin. If the treatment works well on your skin, you will need to do about five to six sessions. The results don’t happen overnight, they occur gradually. Every hair and skin type is different, but almost all patients should be able to see results in about three months.
