Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a form of non-surgical spider vein treatment where a medical solution is injected into blood vessels that causes them to shrink and disappear. It is commonly used to treat spider veins. Lasers can also be used on spider veins and are a common compliment to the treatment. A consult with our Providers can help determine the best treatment plan, with 1-3 injections typically required.
Am I a Good Candidate for Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a good treatment for healthy individuals who want to remove spider veins.
The best candidates are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to become pregnant. Sclerotherapy may not be safe for people with a history of blood clotting or deep-vein thrombosis.
Your Sclerotherapy Consultation
During the consultation, your spider veins will be assessed. Please discuss your complete medical history to help determine your eligibility for the treatment. Feel free to ask questions to help you feel more comfortable about sclerotherapy.
Once it has been determined that you are eligible for the treatment, you will be given special instructions on how to prepare for sclerotherapy. These may include the best clothes to wear on the day of your appointment and what to avoid after the treatment.
You may also need to avoid antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications for at least one week before your sclerotherapy.
On the day of your session, do not apply lotion or any other skincare products on the selected areas for treatment.
The Session
The area for treatment will be cleaned and prepared for the injection. After cleansing the area, a liquid or foam solution will be injected into the blood vessel.
Patients may experience a mild burning feeling or cramps (in the case of larger veins) that should last for only a minute or two.
The whole session takes only 30 to 45 minutes. Patients are free to resume their daily activities after sclerotherapy without any need for recovery.
Your Sclerotherapy will be performed at Thrive Skin + Wellness' surgery center located in Holly Springs, NC.
