Start your new year off with clear and smooth skin. Millions of Americans struggle with actinic keratosis (AK), often identified as sun spots. These spots on the skin are dry and scaly patches which develop from exposure to ultraviolet light. They are mostly found on the face, scalp and ears and can range in size and color. The spots are usually benign, but do have the potential to develop into skin cancer. It is important to take action to remove them before they can develop into something more. At Total Health & Skin Center Blu-U Light Therapy is combined with Levulan for a simple and safe way to remove the spots.

How Does It Work

Levulan is a topical agent that is photosensitizing. When it is applied to the AK spots, it is absorbed by the cells and converted into a chemical. This chemical makes the cells very sensitive to light. After the Levulan has had time to absorb into the cells, the Blu-U Light Therapy is applied to the exposed cells, and a reaction occurs to destroy the AK cells. Once the cells are gone, the skin is left with an improved texture and tone. Pore sizes are also decreased, which lowers the oil flow of the face.
