How Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® Work
Product selection is made per patient preference, though your provider may recommend one product over another, depending on your specific goals, area(s) of the face being treated, and severity of lines/strength of muscles.
With just a few injections, these products block the release of acetylcholine, the chemical that causes muscles to contract. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smoothes out and the lines begin to fade.
What You Should Know
Contrary to popular belief, frown lines are not always caused by age. Age is a factor, but repeated facial movements, such as frowning or squinting, can also create frown lines. This often means they may develop even in younger adults.
The procedure takes only 10-15 minutes. No anesthesia is required; however the provider may numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. There may be minimal and brief discomfort, along with slight temporary bruising at the injection sight which can be covered up with make-up. There is little to no down-time.
Results are typically seen in days and may continue to improve during the first two weeks after treatment. Results may vary. With proper unit dosing, the effects of Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin® can last up to three to four months.
To ensure the best treatment outcome, the provider will determine the amount of units needed to ensure you receive the proper dosage. Dosage amount is not based on the number of syringes used, so ask your provider exactly how many units you are receiving.
